Quality of Life - Education.
Crisp County School System.
The Crisp County School System serves approximately 4,400 prekindergarten
through grade 12 students in its seven schools. All prekindergarten
students are served at O'Neal Prekindergarten Center in the
historic O'Neal neighborhood of Cordele. Students in grades
K-2 are served at Blackshear Trail Elementary School or J. S.
Pate Elementary School, depending upon their zones of residence.
Similarly, students in grades 3-5 are served at A. S. Clark
Elementary School or Southwestern Elementary School according
to the same residency zones. All students in Crisp County's
public school system attend Crisp County Middle School for grades
6-8, and all students in grades 9-12 are served at Crisp County
High School.
Each school's commitment to optimizing the achievement of students
is manifest in our system's credible track record. Blackshear
Trail Elementary School and J. S. Pate Elementary School have
met No Child Left Behind's AYP standards for 11 consecutive
years. A. S. Clark Elementary School and Southwestern Elementary
School have done the same for 7 consecutive years.
Both Crisp County High School and Crisp County Middle School
provide students with instructional programs that are comprehensive
and challenging by design. A diverse curriculum allows students
to explore their interests while enabling them to prepare themselves
to be productive citizens in the workplace of tomorrow. Both
schools boast an array of extra-curricular activities for male
and female participants. Regardless of whether one prefers the
arts or athletics, Crisp County Schools has something for everyone.

Crisp County Regional Hospital.
Qualified and caring physicians,
along with modern technology, provide the Crisp County region
with quality health-care.
For more that 50 years, Crisp Regional Hospital has served the
medical needs of the area. The present facility on Hwy. 41 (7th
Street) north opened its doors in 1990, and has recently completed
an expansion project that doubled the size of the intensive
care unit, provided a new medical records area, a larger physician's
lounge, a relocation for the same day surgery department and
will allow for the expansion of the medical imaging department.
The expansion means that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) equipment
can be purchase and provided in-house. In the past year, the
hospital has added two pieces of imaging equipment that are
state-of-the-art.
A GW Lunar iDXA Scanner for measuring bone mineral density is
twice as precise and accurate as competing systems. The newest
technology delivers crisp, high resolution images of all skeletal
sites. In addition to bone, the DXA also can assess fat and
lean tissue. DXA is the "gold standard" test for assessing
fracture risk.
Crisp Regional rivals the capabilities of neighboring big city
hospitals with the addition of a GE 64 Slice VXT CT Scanner.
This scanner helps to pinpoint disease at earlier stages and
provides doctors more information for planning appropriate treatment.
The technology is so fast that it can capture exceptionally
clear pictures of the heart while it is beating. When physicians
obtain detailed images of the anatomy and organ systems, they
are able to make more informed diagnostic in a noninvasive manner.
Besides a thoroughly modern imaging department, Crisp Regional
offers an accredited medical laboratory and full-time, board
certified pathologist; a dialysis center; an emergency team
that's on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; a home-like
birthing center; physical, speech and occupational therapy;
a sleep center and an oncology clinic.
Close to 100 physicians representing 20 specialized fields have
privileges at the 73-bed facility.
Crisp Regional is proud of its Auxiliary which includes a corps
of some 45 members who work daily at the hospital information
desk and in the gift shop. One of this group's primary purposes
is raising funds to put back into the medical facility.
Among the Auxiliary's gift have been recliners for the oncology
clinic, scrubs that the emergency room staff can give patients,
and a new software program for testing of therapy patients.
Also Affiliated with Crisp Regional are two community health-care
centers in Warwick and Arabi; Crisp Regional Nursing and Rehab
Center; Blackshear Retirement Villas; Crisp Regional Hospice
and Caresouth. www.crispregional.org
